Director Martin Scorsese's Casino (1995) is a classic in the genre of gambling movies. The film is dependant on the book by Nicholas Pileggi and is the true story of a guy who managed multiple casinos for the mafia.
The movie takes place in Nevada in the 1970s and 1980s and tells the story of Sam Rosenthal, the Tangiers Casino owner, who has connections to the mob.
Acting legends Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, and Sharon Stone contribute to the film's lasting appeal. The movie follows the storyline of their characters, Ace Rothstein and Nicky Santoro, two mafia members who become casino managers. Things start to fail when Ace falls in love with a beautiful hustler, and Nicky gets entangled in a cycle of drugs and violence.
The film portrays the extravagant days of the past of gambling in Las Vegas and mobsters running casinos prior to the arrival of on line casino operators.
